TSS#45 – The Coronapocolypse?

Today’s Stray Sheep is about my current Covid-19-situation. How are things going for me? How am I holding up over here? What’s the situation in Germany?

Note: Today’s post is accompanied by Screenshots from MHW and uhm… yes, I’m behind on posts. I’m working on it. If you know the game, you may notice that I’m farther in than last time. 😀 Regardless of that, enjoy this post!

A while ago, Covid-19 started spreading and, honestly, I just thought it’s something that will pass over time. Sometime later it suddenly was spreading elsewhere and you got to see photos of plundered stores and chaos in countries like Italy and Spain where the country is on lockdown at the moment and over time my point of view on the issue was turned around and I took it a lot more serious than I thought I would. I mean… everybody called it the “Return of the Roaring 20’s” and I always joked about the Plague returning every century in the 20s… and then this hits… so I must have jinxed it, obviously.

My thought-process was quite close to Naithin’s who just recently posted about the Covid-situation and how it all unfolds and I really recommend reading about it over there on his blog!

I wanted to post about my situation and the Covid-19 a lot sooner but this draft has been sitting here for at least two weeks now and it’s been going nuts in that time. Whenever I wanted to post the blog-post, it ended up getting changed drastically, needing a lot more editing again, and hence sitting around for a lot longer.

This picture is derpy, so here you go. Cheer up, lol.

But why is that? Why the change?

Well,… I first didn’t take Corona too serious. I ended up thinking that it’s something that I do not need to worry about, as I’m not old enough to die from it, but… I do have to worry about other people.

The numbers of new infections at the moment are increasing a lot lately. While the numbers in my state have been close to 50 about two to three weeks ago, there were 200 cases on the very next day, 500 two days later and already about a thousand only a few days later. The numbers kept increasing like that and already reached close to 4.8 thousand today (officially – it’s also the 19th right now).

But we can stop that from happening by distancing ourselves and staying at home unless it’s really necessary. Or rather than stopping new infections from happening, we are able to slow it down so that more and more people can get cured of it – #FlattenTheCurve is something that is trending right now.

It’s a New World that we’re living in but I’m sure things will get back to normal soon after the vaccine drops!

I’ve read that about half of the infected people get cured within two to three weeks and can’t get it again while there’s a smaller number of infected people that need more care as they have pneumonia and overall among the „youngsters“ or „healthy people that get infected“ the mortality rate is sitting at about .02% right now, so it’s not too drastic… but that number is a lot higher for elderly people or infants or people with other conditions or pregnant women (and their unborn children).

Hence, we need to distance ourselves so that doctors and nurses can take care of the infected while we are at home, not risking anyone.

Even without symptoms, you can potentially have it and spread it to others, which is why social distancing is of utmost importance right now.

Right now a lot of people are actually making fun of policemen and the government by freely going outside and having “Corona-Parties” where they show up in large quantities, drinking and partying as their amendments very much say that they are allowed to gather in large crowds and move wherever they please. But it’s not like we’re in a dictatorship or whatever and hence according to other laws, the government can issue a ban on going out to stop pandemics… and they did… In Bavaria but also in my state people aren’t allowed to leave the house unless they’re on their way to grocery shopping, to the doctor’s, to work (if home-office doesn’t work) or the fuel station. Of course, you still are able to go into your garden or onto your balcony but people aren’t allowed to go outside in their free time in groups of more than two (as far as I know) with two meters of distance between each other or in (a bit) bigger groups if you’re a family with more children.

Stick together, just like Pink Geralt and Tammy are doing right now!

Same goes for bulk-purchases: They are bad. Don’t do that.

Over here I couldn’t find any fresh veggies, bread, meat, eggs, pasta, flour or other affordable items when it came to food because of people going ham on the stores. Every morning people go crazy on those stores and bulk purchase a ton of goods while a lot of students (like me) or old people (like the old lady next-door) don’t have the ability to fully load a car with goods like that and hence have to rely on getting some items every now and then if there are any left-overs. The other day even I was asked by an old person whether or not I need the pasta that I was going to buy, so I gave it to her and left without any (again), while another lady was purchasing 300€ worth of ingredients, toilet paper, body lotion, hand sanitizers and other articles in two shopping carts which I just found unheard of.

Bulk-purchases cause hysteria. Bulk-purchases result in people being hungry. Again, they are bad. Again, don’t do that.

But overall, times are bad but if you stay at home, you’re good. You’re safe. You don’t put anyone at risk. And that’s important. And it’s not a permanent solution, I know, but it’s better than endangering a ton of people before the vaccine eventually hits the world at the end of this year or mid next year (or whenever it lands).

I know you’re there, damn lurkers!

I’m also preparing a lot of posts for Blaugust with about twenty drafts sitting around and none being finished yet. This year I want to over-achieve and finish with at least double the number of posts! Sounds crazy, right? Well, I’ll try at least!

Minimum Goal: 31 (one daily post throughout the month)

Maximum Goal: 62 (two daily posts throughout the month)

Super-Maximum „I’m not an adult yet“ Goal: 69 (aka two posts daily + one week with one extra post per day!)

And Uhm, yeah, that’s what’s going on right now. I hope you’re staying safe. I’m safe. My girlfriend’s safe. My family’s safe. I hope it stays that way and I hope that you and yours are great over there as well, not risking anything and limiting exposure to possibly infected people.

Have a nice day! Stay healthy, stay safe!

And cheers!

TSS#44 – Heros in these times

Today’s Stray Sheep is different… in these quite different times. There are people out there that don’t realise how great and important it is that they are doing what they are doing. And I’d like to thank them and praise them or rather sing hymns about them (semi-ironically)… but I shouldn’t sing as I really am bad at singing. So this post is about that.

Note: This post features cat pictures from the internet. If you’re afraid of cats, don’t click on this post. If you hate cats, ignore the cats in this post. And if you’re wondering why I’m not using my own cat pictures, I’m not allowed to own a cat in my dorm-flat. I’m quite sad about that.

With Covid-19 going around, the safest course of action right now is staying home and to socially distance oneself from others to slow down the infection rate so that nurses and doctors out there can do their thing without being flooded with patients. That’s important.

Now you may be asking what my situation right now is and uh… post on that soon, I guess?

So, best course of action: Stay home. As easy as that.
But what do we do at home? Well, you can watch shows and movies, I guess… I personally have read through plenty of books as of late (books that I wouldn’t have gotten to if my university wasn’t closed at the moment, haha)… and I’ve played a lot of games.

But there are times where you need something else to do and that’s where the hero (or heroine) shows up and saves the day!

I’m talking about people that are creating content. Online. Yup.

Now that may sound like an exaggeration but as of late I’ve been feeling bored quite often. All the big events like the Twitch Con or some student parties that I would have gone to are getting cancelled and I’m rather bummed out about that… I even had to cancel my own birthday party as I didn’t want to risk that anyone gets the virus and spreads it to others.

It is kind of sad in a way. And certainly, I can’t play games all day long… and I can’t watch shows all-day long… or read books (mostly as I’m running out of books and I rarely re-read the ones in my shelf). I also can’t write all day long and with a ton of my friends not being available at the moment, there’s not much I can do. I try to mix up my activities… I clean more often and sit outside on the balcony or read different genres and watch different kinds of shows and write about different stuff in preparation of Blaugust 2020 (Please tell me that that is going to happen, Bel!).

And to mix things up, I’m reading a lot more new blog posts lately… and I’m also catching up on everything that I’ve missed out on. And when I’m lonely while eating food, I’m watching streamers on Twitch… and when I’m going to bed, I may watch another YouTube video to get sleepy… and when I’m wondering what a movie is like, I read a review on that… and there are a lot more examples of cases where people have been there for me without really knowing about that.

I feel like these people are getting underestimated. I’m currently streaming on Twitch as well (quite often actually) and we often talk about things and how things are and we joke around and try to have some fun to distract ourselves from everything that is happening outside of our four walls.

But while I’m talking about me here and my stream, I may be a bad example as even I have times where I can’t stream or where I am not at my best or very sleepy or where I just may not be able to post for a while and hence, it’s times like these where people need more options and more content creators to watch.

And I want to praise all the good content creators out there that are a lot more experienced and a lot better at what they’re doing than I am. And this is not some kind of “fishing for compliments” kinda paragraph. I’m serious about it. I don’t really have the best kind of way with words and I’m really not the best review-blog or variety-streamer or whatever… but I’m trying my best! So just as a disclaimer: I’m not bummed out about being not as good as others… I’m just saying that other people are a bit (or a lot) better at blogging and streaming than I am… and that’s okay as it’s all a work in progress. 🙂

Distraction is great! Distraction is important!

HENCE,
I applaud every one of you who is out there bringing joy and smiles to other people, and every one of you who is there for people that feel lonely right now or who are scared.

Please keep up with what you’re doing, no matter if you’re streaming games on Twitch or doing Vlogs on YouTube or if you’re a blogger who’s writing about Humble Choice (every month) or about Fountain Pens or about IT stuff that I like to read about but still don’t understand or if you’re a GWENT blogger or if you review movies or if you have a few lovely cats and write about those or if you write about MMOs or if you write about discussions and political topics and whatnot.

No matter what kind of content you’re creating, you’re doing great (as long as you’re not spreading fake news and as long as you’re not harming people, of course). Keep it up!

And to everyone here reading this and maybe having a bit of a rough time… Keep on keeping on! You got this! Stay safe! Stay healthy! Hang in there! And…

Cheers!

The MonHunLog #2 – Three more Elders To-Go, please

It’s been a while since I posted about the adventures in the New World but uh, I don’t have a reason why I didn’t post sooner. Mostly procrastination, I guess. Either way, last time we were hunting down the vicious Nergigante, as well as some other threats to the eco-system. However, the troubles didn’t end there as three more Elder Dragons have been sighted! Hence, we now had to deal with those.

The next three Elder Dragons were Kushala Daora, Teostra, and Vaal Hazak. I particularly was quite hyped for Vaal Hazak as all the information that I had on him lead to the assumption that it’s a Zombie-Dragon. And that’s cool. Yup. I didn’t disappointed though.

But first things first. Kushala Daora, the Dragon of Steel, could be found in the Ancient Forest but we ended up fighting it in Elder’s Recess. It is rather passive until you get close to it and hit it, so you have plenty of time to prepare even after sighting it.

While it has no Element and while it is called the Dragon of Steel, surprisingly, it actually uses wind attacks and unleashes powerful torrents upon you, making it rather hard to mount and fight it from above. I had a bit of trouble with this one until Frostilyte came over and carried me through these Elder Dragons so that I get through the base game quicker.

Now, Teostra the Infernal is a whole other story. Teostra resembles a gryphon more than an actual dragon, which I found rather cute. Teostra appears to be the male version of Lunastra, as I’ve been told, but I haven’t encountered her yet, so I’m not all that sure.

Teostra brings plenty of fire damage to the fights as well as some charge-attacks that are even more vicious then Diablo’s. Only through Frosti’s great damage output and my mounting-capabilities were we able to get through this fight.

At that point, I realised that Frosti is the true MVP of the game here as he’s just way too overpowered at this point, so I’ll probably try to Solo these Elders in the future, too. Either way… next up is…

Vaal Hazak the Hellish Fiend! It’s a rotten dragon that features a lot of black flesh and black skin. I really liked the style of this one and was excited to see the actual armour for this one!

I loved this fight so much. It was a lot easier than the other two due to nullberries being quite effective against its ailments. That’s mainly the Effluvium attacks it uses which shorten your health bar. My approach to this fight was to essentially eat a meal to get my health bar to up to +100 and to essentially use up as many nullberries as possible. At some point it even played dead to soak up Effluvium which it would shoot out through its head again, so we just kept hitting it from behind (wink wink nudge nudge) until it died. Very quick, but still quite cool!

Just look at my cute little Deathknight over here! Tammy looks just fabulous in this armour!

Now, as for the armours: I honestly only liked the Vaal Hazak armour. My Palico, Tammy, looks insanely cute, especially when dyed purple, and the Vaal Hazak armour for my Hunter is alright stat-wise but looks quite cute, however… since there’s no transmog-function in this game… I won’t take it. There are better sets out there but Tammy will stay like this for sure!

Next up, we’re taking our chances against the mysterious Xeno’Jiiva, the final boss of the base game. We’ll see how that one goes!

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this entry of the Monster Hunter Log! Until the next time…

Cheers!

Super Mario Multiverse 2020 – Mario Kart Tour

Well, hello there, fellow mages and non-mages! I wish you all a happy 10th of March! This day is a day to be remembered. It’s Mar10, after all, or – if you still don’t get it – MAR I O Day!

And hence I decided to write about Mario Kart Tour, my initial hype, my first few impressions and what the possibility of a mobile version of the Mario Kart sub-franchise meant for me, back when it came out and when I started playing.

First of all, I’d like to mention that this post here is a part of something whole, something great and awesome! This post is part of the Super Mario Multiverse that has been organised by The Well-Red Mage where a ton of different people around the world post about Mario Games! Feel free to check out the hub-post here with all the different posts linked to it and check out the other fellow writers and bloggers. 🙂

With that being said, let’s get into it.

Mario Kart has always been a great game for small gatherings of friends and family members. I really enjoyed playing it at a friend’s place on his N64 and I even enjoyed playing the NDS-version as well as the Wii-version whenever someone brought their Wii to a party. I always thought that an App would be great so that people around the world could play it on their mobile devices and while Emulators are a thing and work quite well on the phone it never really felt “right”.

That’s the reason why I was so excited about Mario Kart Tour to come out. I registered for it on the day I got the notification for it. I installed it instantly on the day it came out and I took part in my first cups and tournaments whenever they were available. I really wanted to get good at this game so that I could play with other people and compete with friends.

Mario Kart is weird in a way as you can make great friends by playing it with others and you can lose friends when you get a Blue Shell going at the right time.

Mario Kart Tour, though, is… very different.
You automatically drive and only need to steer and drift. Items are different and characters get unlocked in a gacha-like way. The game is free to play but there is a premium package to it for a lot of money and essentially you can win in tournaments at the beginning… but to win in the long run, you’ll have to pay money. Winning in tournaments is done by getting a lot of points. You get points for the place you finish at, the items you use, tricks you pull off, the characters, karts and gliders you use, and overall it’s a competition of skill and style! I liked that a lot.

But the fourth speed-grade is unlocked when you get the golden pass. A lot of characters and rewards can only be gotten with the golden pass. It’s all very tricky. Without that pass, you can’t compete, and hence it seems as if the game is pay to win… but you can still have fun. You can still play along with other people with more levels being unlocked over time and I just found it interesting to see what a mobile adaptation could look like, but I really hope that they don’t settle for this as the finished version.

And hence, I’ll stick around to my emulators and actual games and stray away from this mobile app. I didn’t particularly like it but I really got excited about it and in a way, I enjoyed my ride and the feeling of nostalgia I got when playing Mario Kart again… and that was nice.

I hope you enjoyed this short post here. It’s not a review but more of a comment, which is not something I usually do but I thought that this would fit quite well into the Super Mario Multiverse.

Please check out the hub-post and the other writers…

…and have a fantastical MAR-IO-Day!

Until next time, cheers!
