Adore – 0.3.0 Pact with Draknar update

Just recently I’ve reviewed Adore but soon after I finished it, it got updated and with the major update 0.3.0 “Pact with Draknar” a lot of stuff was added to the game that, essentially, changes a lot of stuff.

Hence there is some information in my review that is kind of wrong and alas, here’s an update post on that game!

(Note: Another review will be released soon but I couldn’t finish it today due to the editing it needed and a lot of other factors)

This update is the biggest so far! It essentially adds three new creatures, a New Game+ mode with three new difficulties and a whole new Stamina system, on top of a few new additions based on Community Suggestions. Hence, I’d recommend checking out their discord as the community is quite active and the devs are listening to the feedback and suggestions and implementing a lot of that. If you play Adore and if you want to help out the devs, join the discord and tell them more about what you liked and what you didn’t like.

First of all: New Creatures:

  • Zarkee (Mystic type):

Zarkee deals huge amounts of damage but needs to channel before every attack. This makes Zarkee very high risk/high reward and asks of you as the player to make use of them properly. Its special attack allows it to jump to another nearby enemy, repeating its attack without the channel.

  • Breor (Beast type):

Breor is designed to be a tank of sorts to create space for the player. He has a special armour mechanic that allows him to negate all negative effects also known as crowd control effects. Breor’s slow attacks keep him in the field for a longer time and he receives less damage due to his armour. His special attack allows him to stun all enemies around him, while also gaining a fixed amount of armour based on the amount of enemies hit by the special.

  • Frogma (Mystic type):

Froga throws a lava projectile that hits enemies in its path and creates a lava puddle on the ground that deals damage per second to any foe inside of it. Its special allows it to throw two extra projectiles.

Second up: New difficulties

The game now features a total of three difficulties: New Game, New Game+ and New Game++. Once you beat one mode, you’ll gain access to the next one, resulting in more of a challenge for players that got the hang out of the playstyle that Adore has. New Game+ features Strong Curse Power while New Game++ features Insane Curse Power, resulting in more challenges for the player as enemies get faster, stronger and merrier and as enemies can spawn near the player as well.

Thirdly: The New Stamina System

Before the change you were able to gain increased stamina through essences and items and you’d be able to spam out creatures if you had a large amount of Stamina, resulting in the game becoming fairly easy if you were to go for four creatures and a ton of stamina. Dodging and recalling creatures would cost you stamina as well, so overall it was a bit tedious in a way when you got on the defensive bullet-hell-ish side of things in certain boss fights and couldn’t regain your stamina fast enough to attack again.

With the new system, you have two bars for your stamina, displayed below your characters at its feet to make it more visible and easier to manage. In my opinion, that’s a big QoL improvement! Dodging and recalling doesn’t use up stamina anymore but now delay the stamina recovery for one second. Stamina recovery overall is up now but you can’t increase your maximum anymore. Instead, you’ll have to go for “bonus stamina recovery”. Summoning a creature consumes one bar now. Alas you can summon two at a time in the beginning and may be able to spam them out later depending on your build. Apart from that some of the items in the game, liked Winged Sandals and Dodging Claw don’t cost any stamina now.

Fourth, new mechanics:

  • “Pact with Draknar”: Once unlocked, you can offer your maximum health in exchange for an essence at any time.
  • “Return by Touch”: Once unlocked, if your creature returns to you by touch, you gain one stamina bar. (This was an item previously but with the new stamina system, they moved it to the mechanic-section as stacking an item like that might be overpowered.)
  • “Walk Control”: Once unlocked, you can take full control of the movement of your creature.

Other changes:

Apart from that there’s been a few balancing changes for the game as well as some bug fixes and some adjustments to Krongur (one of the bosses), some of the controls, some quality of life improvements, as well as as a new road-map. If you’d like to check those changes out in detail (no pun here, move on), you can do so over here

That’s it for today’s post. I’m quite hyped about the new changes and can’t wait to see how the finished product at the end of Early Access looks like. For now though, I wish you all a wonderful time.

As always, stay safe and healthy!

Cheers!
