Attagged by Meghan! – Sunshine Blogger Award, again!

Yesterday, I decided to tackle the Sunshine Blogger Award tag that I received from Thomas. Today’s post is about the same tag but it’s a more recent nomination, so I’m happy to be one of the nominations by Meghan. If you haven’t yet, check out her blog post over here.

So, the rules are simple:

  • Thank the person that tagged you (Thanks, Meghan!).
  • Answer questions (it’s eleven for whatever reason)
  • Ask questions (again, eleven… who came up with that?)
  • Nominate people (will probably do that later!)
Maybe a Wooper? Nah.

Question 1: In the spirit of the 25th anniversary of Pokemon: if you were the Champion of your region, which Pokemon would be on your team of 6?

I love Platinum’s Cynthia. Her design is great and her choice of Pokémon’s amazing… so maybe her team actually. Those Pokémon would be Spiritomb, Roserade, Togekiss, Milotic, Lucario, and Garchomp. Personally speaking, I may take out Roserade for Guardevoir and switch Lucario out for Sableye but apart from that I really like that team. Now, if I were a Gym Leader, I’d probably run a Ghost Type Gym with Dusknoir, Gengar, Chandelure, Gourgeist, Dragapult, and Mimikyu as my team.

Question 2: How do you feel about presentations like Sony’s State of Play and Nintendo Directs? Love em or hate em? Why?

While I don’t like them, I don’t dislike them. I’ve never really watched any of those shows really. Usually, they happen, I miss it, and I can’t be arsed to watch it or inform myself, which isn’t a problem really… I just don’t care, I think.

Question 3: Video game movies are usually terrible, but which game would you like to see adapted on the big screen? Any dream cast members?

Graveyard Keeper… the movie…. I feel like that sounds quite alright… and Jason Segel sounds quite good for the protagonist!

Question 4: If you were a video game character that had to use a mundane item (i.e. an umbrella) as a weapon, what would you use?

A typewriter because it worked quite well in Blacksad!

Question 5: Have you picked up any new hobbies during the pandemic? If so, talk about it!

I’d joke about daylight drinking but I quit that already, so… not really, sorry.

Question 6: How did you get into video games in the first place?

I think I go into detail about it in this post here and in this more recent post!

Question 7: Who is your least favourite video game character of all time?

I feel like it would be rude to name anyone here since video game characters are people’s creations and a lot of people worked on them, from the model to the writing and programming to the voice acting. It would probably be saddening for them if they heard you talk about their children like that. Shame on you! Shame! Shame! Shame! But jokes aside, Breathedge’s AI is annoying, so while it may not be my least favourite video game character… it scores quite low on that list… or high.. or… you know…

Question 8: Does pineapple belong on pizza?

I don’t mind pineapple on pizza but I don’t think that it’s a must-be… and I think “belong” would imply that which is untrue. Imagine a nice tuna pizza with red onions and garlic… pineapple would suck on that. Anyways, pineapples on pizza, in general, can work quite well, though, and pineapple on hamburgers is amazing. But take my opinion with a grain of salt. I like Dr Pepper, I don’t mind insect burgers, and I like a lot of weird Japanese black bean sodas and whatnot that other people may not enjoy.

Question 9: A lot of video games incorporate some form of cooking – if you had to cook a signature recipe in a game, what would you choose? What stats would it boost/what would it do for you?

Tuna Pasta with Mayonaise. It boosts your health by a lot since tuna’s great… but it lowers your stamina because you ate too much of it and need a nap now.

Question 10: Has there ever been a game that you decided to walk away from before completing? If so, why?

Yes. A lot of games. There are a lot of games that I stopped playing not even half-way through. Either the controls are too frustrating and the game feels janky (see Witcher 1) or something bothers me like collecting women as trophies or some shit like that (see Witcher 1) or it’s just boring or buggy (see Witcher 1). There are a lot of reasons to walk away from a game but I don’t think that that’s a bad thing. If you don’t enjoy a game, why would you try to push through it regardless? Heck, I’m not a masochist that’s going to sit through the Witcher 1 or any of the other games that I haven’t played through the story yet. Jeez.

Question 11: Have you ever been talked down to, or insulted for playing a certain game or genre? How did you respond?

Yes, and it’s actually kind of funny. Someone was trying to pick a fight with me in a stream and started insulting me and stuff. He was trying to be funny with it but I ended up cringing a lot at him… Then he tried to act as if he was aware of that and as if he’s just pretending to be like that…. but he made it worse. Either way, he tried to insult me by saying that I only play Indie games… so, I responded that I didn’t know if that’s supposed to be an insult or something. I don’t know where the problem with Indie Games is and why that would be an insult. There are more than enough Indie Games that are better than the Witcher 1 or other Tripple-A titles, so… there’s that… and I also said that it’s just not true. It’s just lame by him to try to attack people by their tastes and get it wrong as well… and then he wanted to insult my streams, so I just said that it’s sad to see him attack other streamers, especially since that’s against Twitch’s Affiliate Agreement (which he accepted) and he kept quiet after that. Anyways, people are idiots.

So, here are my nominations for this tag:

GO – because GO’s a cool guy.

William – because he’s a fun guy as well.

McKenna – because it’s always a pleasure to read their posts.

Wilhelm – because I like his Valheim posts a lot.

Aywren – because their posts get me into the mood to play BDO again. Also, Aywren’s posts are great and they’re one of the first people I got to know through blogging.

If anyone else wants to make a post on these questions and continue the tag, feel free to. It’s fun. No pressure. If any of the nominees don’t want to do it, tag someone else and pressure them into doing this. Thanks!

And the questions for you guys are:

Question 1: What awful movie do you love?

Question 2: Can a society exist without laws?

Question 3: If you could only play one game to play for the rest of your life, which game would you absolutely not choose?

Question 4: You can detach one of your body parts. Which one is it and why do you want to detach that body part?

Question 5: Is there someone or something that you always have time for?

Question 6: If Earth was populated by only you and clones of you… what would life, society and the world be like?

Question 7: Would you rather only be able to drink your least favourite drink in the world or only be able to eat your least favourite food?

Question 8: What is something that you’ve never tried out because you think that you’d be horrible at it?

Question 9: A time traveller from 200 years in the future appears before you. His time machine’s core-thingy is unstable, so he only has time to answer one question by you. What do you ask him?

Question 10: What was your first-ever crush from a video game?

Question 11: If you were a vegetable, you’d be a cutecumber. How does that make you feel?

Have fun answering the questions! Thanks for reading this post.

Cheers!

Attagged by Thomas! – Sunshine Blogger Award

It’s been a while since I last did one of these posts, so I guess it’s great timing for Meghan to tag us once again for the Sunshine Blogger Award. The problem with that, however, is that I actually thought that Meghan did a-tag us before for the Sunshine Blogger Award but it was actually the Mystery Blogger Award… since Thomas nominated us for the Sunshine Blogger Award… which I nominated him for as well… It’s a whole thing that is going on. Thomas and Frosti have a total war going on between them, tagging each other on and on and since I retired from this war to fight my nemeses… exams… because those are still a thing in the outside world… uh… I essentially didn’t get to reply to Thomas’ post just yet despite him having posted this one (Part 4!) in September already… So, we’re going to answer those questions and then make nominations… and then I’ll get to Meghan’s post tomorrow and make more nominations… quite potentially the same… the worst part will be to create new questions… Oh well.

So, just to clarify: This is super confusing but uh… Thomas’ post today… Meghan’s post tomorrow.

Uh, the rules are simple:

  • Thank the person that tagged you (thanks, Thomas).
  • Answer questions (eleven or so?)
  • Ask questions (why eleven btw?)
  • Nominate people (will do that later… I think!)

As a note to Thomas/Quietschisto… I’m not sure, Thomas, if you’ve actually done my post yet since you’ve mentioned it in your post. Can you link it in the comments of this post if you have written that post up? Just so I know.

Question 1: If you were a character in a fighting game, what would be your signature move?

My signature move would probably be banned from all tournaments. After executing the signature-Hadouken-level-combo after filling up all the bars and doing all of that stuff (no idea how that works again), I kick the enemy’s head and time freezes for a solid thirty seconds. In those thirty seconds, the enemy and I stand still while we see a flashback of me and the enemy as kids holding hands together and walking down the street while laughing on a sunny day. Then my character utters an inner monologue about how the world got corrupted and how everything was better in the past. My character then says that the world needs to be destroyed for it to be fixed again… Then my character says “This is it” in a deep voice and the game shuts itself off and corrupts your save file.

Question 2: If Samus Aran and Megaman switched places, who would fare better?

I think Samus would since Samus… but then again, I have no idea about either of those characters… I just think that Samus is cooler, I guess.

Question 3: If you could replace a limb/body part with a mechanical but superior version of it, would you do it?

Yes. I would switch out my legs for sure… then I’d be able to walk everywhere without my knees hurting or my feet aching. That’d be cool.

Question 4: You get the chance to be a vital part of a mission exploring a new possibly inhabited planet. However, it takes 400 years to reach that destination and you’ll be put into cryosleep during space travel so that only one or two years pass for you and your body. Do you take part?

Yes. While I do think that someone more qualified should take part in it instead of me…, I’d love to do that myself, so fuck it, let’s go. Where do I sign up?

Question 5: Describe the perfect crime. Wrong answers only.

Okay, so hear me out… you basically commit a crime… and then… you turn yourself in so that nobody can catch you.

Question 6: How would a healing potion work in real life? […]

Depends on the potion. lol. I’d say that you pour it over the wound and it magically heals it. You pour it over cancer, however, and it magically kills you faster than before because the cancer cells end up regenerating a lot and multiply like crazy.

It’s a mage.

Question 7: What if we all had Mana but simply no spellcasting abilities? What would we use it for?

Isn’t energy basically mana? We need it to work. We need it to think. We need it to walk. That’s basically what mana is, right?

Question 8: You’re playing a horror game with gore and a kid walks in and asks what’s going on. How do you explain it to them without frightening them?

I haven’t eaten my veggies and because of that I’m being chased and eaten by these monsters. I’m trying to escape but these weird other people here have also not eaten their veggies, so I kill them to stop the monster. Btw, have you eaten your veggies yet? No? I might have to use you as bait then to distract the monster. Come, let’s go eat the veggies together.

Question 9: Pick a game and give me a list of “ingredients” as if it was food. Don’t tell me what the game is, though… I wanna guess.

Mix Tower Defense with Resource Management, Roguelike mechanics, some depth, a levelling system, lots of challenges, and a brilliant soundtrack. Then have fun alone or with friends.

Question 10: If you made a spaceship out of vegetables, which vegetables would you choose?

I can’t fly spaceships and I don’t know how to build spaceships, which is why I’m not qualified to answer this question.

Question 11: Tutorials suck but there are great ones, so give me some examples.

The tutorial in Yakuza 0 is quite nice.

So, for this tag, I’m going to nominate

Meghan – because she’s a gem!

Frosti – because I wanna join in on the war!

Naithin – because I can always rely on him for advice!

Pete – because I like reading his posts over there!

Meg – because she’s also really cool!

Thanks again, Thomas, for the tag.

Here are the eleven questions for these guys. Don’t feel bad if you don’t wanna answer them.

Question 1: Think of a question and don’t mention it anywhere. Insert the answer to that question as an answer to any of the following questions that you don’t want to answer. Reply with yes or no to this one.

Question 2: What’s your guilty pleasure game?

Question 3: What’s a word you really like but never use?

Question 4: You have to unban one game from Twitch (see list of banned games here), which one do you choose and why?

Question 5: When you don’t feel like posting, what do you do to get some motivation to do it anyway?

Question 6: What is the quality you have that your friends appreciate the most about you?

Question 7: You’re married to a mermaid/a merman. Would you like it more if the bottom half or the top half was human-looking?

Question 8: What’s a game that you really hate that is super overrated in your opinion?

Question 9: Would you rather be drunk forever or always hungover? And why?

Question 10: What is gatekeeping? Wrong answers only.

Question 11: Valheim is super popular right now. Explain why and fill the answer with as many puns as possible!

I hope you enjoyed this post and these questions. If you haven’t been nominated, feel free to answer the questions anyways in a post of your own and tag whoever you want to and link back to me so that I can read your post as well. I’m intrigued!

Cheers!

Mystery Blogger Award! We got atagged by Meg!

So, Quietschisto dared to tag us for the Sunshine Blogger Award and I wanted to make a post about that one but then I got reminded that a certain geeky gal called Megan actually tagged me for the Mystery Blogger Award… in March! Oh no, we’re super late! Meghan, thanks for the tag. I honestly forgot about it because other stuff came up!

The rules are a bit of the usual, I guess:

  • Thank the blogger and link to them (which should be a given)
  • Display the award logo on your blog (which I’m gonna do in this post)
  • Mention the creator of the award + link
  • List the rules
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself
  • Answer five questions from the nominator
  • Ask your nominees any five questions of your choice, including one weird or funny question
  • Nominate 10 to 20 bloggers
  • Notify the bloggers by leaving a comment on their blog (though, I’d just message them where possible)
  • Share the link to your best post

Now, as far as the award goes… I’m just going to copy-paste this from Meghan’s site as it seems to be a quote on her end as well.

“According to the creator, Okoto, “Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.”

I’m not sure if my blog captivates, inspires or motivates, but I sure do know that I love blogging and that it brings me fun, joy and entertainment. I’m really bad at taking compliments and I have yet to get better at that but since that last part is there, I thought… you know… might as well go for that. 🙂

Three things about me:

  • My eyesight is really bad. That’s mostly because of me growing really fast as a kid and my eyes just couldn’t keep up or something… and eventually, it started to reflect in my eyesight getting worse and worse. Right now I’m at -3.75 and -4.00 diopters and effectively, I could get it fixed but I’m scared of potential risks involved in surgery/laser-therapy and hence, I just rock these glasses until it gets better on its own or until I have time and guts to do that laser thing.
  • I’m insanely bad at introducing myself and telling people something about myself. This may come as no surprise since I did that post, ages ago, and now I’m doing this thing here and the “three things about me” are turning a bit meta and boring… but yeah, I’m super bad at this kind of stuff, so I’m just listing the first/best three things I could come up with.
  • My favourite colour is purple and I nearly would have gone to Prom in a purple suit… but then I found this Bordeaux red suit and fell in love with it… I looked fabulous if I do say so myself, although I would have been the best-looking person on the Prom even with the purple suit. Now, my self-esteem is getting better overall but it’s still hard to say that kinda stuff about myself and like actually mean it… although, I know that all of my fellow students were boring and had these lame blue and black suits… this is a party and not a funeral, nerds.

Now, if I were to link my “best post”, I wouldn’t actually know which post to link. In terms of “best-performing” post, I’d clearly have to go with my review on Fall Guys that did get an overwhelming amount of views in the first couple and days and is still outperforming all of my other posts. But I actually don’t like that post too much as it was a bit rough and just kind of turned into a review after a while… and I don’t know. My “best post” would probably be more like my review on Outer WildsBefore I Forget or Girl By The Sea. I really enjoyed writing those and I noticed that I did a “good job” with those reviews while I was editing them. Hence, uh, there’s that!

The Questions that Meghan answered were quite interesting although I find the obsession with aliens a bit concerning… But let’s get into her questions:

  • What game or gaming moment made you laugh the hardest?

I honestly can’t remember the last time that I really “laughed out loud”/LOL’d at a game. Hades, however, has a few nice bits and pieces here and there in the conversations that I found quite fun. There’s also this one scene in DMC: Devil May Cry where Dante is facing this big giant spider-guy and they just say “fuck you” to each other for a solid minute. “Fuck you.” – “No, fuck you!” – “No, fuck you.” – “No, fuck you!!!!” – or something like that, which I found quite funny at the time. And then there are some badass-ish moments in Serious Sam that I found quite nice… generally, I kind of laugh because of certain moments but usually, I don’t really “laugh out loud”.

  • Which character (games, book, shows, etc.) would be your best friend and why?

Now, this is a tough question as well since I don’t think it’s a good idea to get more friends. In our day and age, it’s hard enough to maintain healthy and close relationships to people already… and now you want me to add another character to my five offline friends? I don’t think that’s gonna work too well… unless of course, it’s Orpheus from Hades or Echidna from Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu’s 2nd Season (Part 1). Orpheus would be a very chill friend to be around. We could just hang around and be all melancholic, depressed and romantic together. Potentially, a song or two by him could lift the mood at times…

BUT I don’t think we should choose a character strictly for our own benefits! No, no! Instead, we should consider them friends and think about how we could help them. I could cuddle with Orpheus and give him feedback in regards to his new writings… and we could go for a drink together for some inspiration or I could listen to him about him and Euridice and his love and all of that. I’d like to help him.

Meanwhile, Echidna would just be cool to hang around with. She’s an interesting character that knows a ton (meaning that we’d be able to talk about a lot, potentially) and we could have tea parties together, minus body fluids. I’d love to share my tea collection with more friends! With the pandemic and all of that, I sadly don’t exactly get the chance to share my tea collection with others…

Alas, I’d be able to grant Echidna my knowledge and listen to her and talk to her and stuff, which is extra cool since I’m alive and she’s dead. Uhm, I would also be able to provide her with some of my favourite teas here including a liquorice-mint-tea and a green-tea with vanilla in it! That’s gotta be better than body fluids! I feel like that could work out quite well.

  • What life skill(s) have you learned from playing video games?

I’d say none but I guess that’d be a lie. After a lot of thinking, I’d go for “speaking and typing English” although a lot of that came from media consumption in general as well as school… so movies, shows, music, poems, books, games, and lessons all helped me learn English. Through video games, I connected with other people and was able to share my thoughts on things and talk to them and learn more, obviously. By getting to know a lot of people from all over the world, I got to talk to more people – using my English skills while also improving them. In the end, I wouldn’t say that video games taught me English… rather, they improved my English a bunch or they gave me opportunities to learn more and get better.

Alas, I didn’t really get any better at any life skill(s) thanks to video games, unless you accept my previous answer which shouldn’t count since it’s not through video games alone but all of that stuff.

  • How did you pick your gaming username (or forum username)?

Oh, this is fun. I made two posts on this. In this one, I mention it a bit below while also mentioning a discussion about gender-/race-locked classes. And in this one, I just talk about my username in general.

  • We’re gonna hang out today, what do you pick for us to do?

Oh, darn, Meg… I’m super late. I hope you don’t mind that I’m nearly seven months late for this but… nothing special, it’s a bit late after all. Tea time for sure! We could also stream some co-op games on Twitch together (since I gotta be live soon anyways) if you bring your own controller. 🙂 I could also bake something real quick or make us some food and, since you don’t live nearby, I guess you take the bed and I’ll sleep on that seat-like thingy over there or at my GF’s. Does that work? When will ya be around? Any food preferences?

Apart from that, coffee in the morning and since you won’t get a plane back to St. Louis anytime soon (heh, pandemic), we could go to a bar or a few in tomorrow evening and visit the botanic gardens, the museums around here, and some other interesting places tomorrow. Feels like the standard program for “tourists” and visitors from other places.

Oh, I also gotta show you the monorail. Wuppertal is famous for it. You’re gonna love it.

My questions for the nominees:

  • You have to ban one game for eternity. This game shall never be played or watched again and nobody is allowed to talk about it. Which game do you pick?
  • How was your day? What have you been up to? Hope you’re well. 🙂
  • If you could take any vehicle/plane/etc. from any game/show/book/whatever to use in our world, what would you pick and where would you go?
  • This one’s weird! It’s not a question… it’s an answer! “No, but the raisins certainly belong to this office.” – Find the question that this answer answers!
  • What’s your favourite Indie title that you personally love that nobody seems to know?

My nominees!

Mr Peril from containsmoderateperil

Wilhelm Arcturus from TAGN

Gray from Gray’s Otome

Tipa from chasingdings

Krikket from NerdGirlThoughts

Stingite from The Friendly Necromancer

Belghast from Tales of the Aggronaut

Nait “Naithin” Thin

that one guy from that one blog that does those posts, y’know? (Quietschisto)

I forgot his name but his Palico in MHW is called “Big Chungus” (Frostilyte)

And, I don’t usually do tags all that often but when I do, it’s a long post. Hope you liked this one.

As for the nominated bloggers, I appreciate these bloggers mentioned above a lot. I don’t read as many blog posts lately compared to the past few months… but now that my last exam is all done and dusted, I’ll be able to get back to that again, hopefully catching up with all of these cool and entertaining people (and Frosti and Quietschisto). 🙂 While there are a lot more bloggers out there that I appreciate and read a bunch, I didn’t want to nominate too many as I’d end up running out of bloggers to tag for that other tag post that I gotta do… I mean 10 are already a ton… Alas, these are the ones that I read the most lately and I gotta do Quietschisto’s tag as well and will nominate others for that one. 😀

Cheers!

Edit: On publish, I didn’t check Meg’s name’s spelling and ended up writing “Meghan” instead of “Megan”. This is now fixed.

The “To The Moon” Play-Along – Act 3

To The Moon! We’ve kind of forgotten about that, haven’t we? Well, I haven’t. I was just really busy… and didn’t really feel like playing the game. Act 2 was dragging on for so long and Act 3 wasn’t too surprising either and also felt quite boring so I stopped streaming the game (as it wasn’t entertaining to watch at all) and I planned on playing it… later… I wouldn’t have thought that I’d be a whole month late but whatever. The post is here! Hope you enjoy it! I’m glad that I’m done with this one. I didn’t particularly enjoy To The Moon due to Act 2 and Act 3 being somewhat slow and boring, I guess? I didn’t personally enjoy it as it felt really long and I just didn’t want to play it despite actually wanting to answer the question. Heck, I didn’t even read the posts by the other people over here yet as I didn’t want to spoil myself, just in case, it got better? Idk.

We’re sperms… because of science!

1 – Johnny… Joey… Twins. It seems after the accident Johnny lost his identity to his mother and became a replacement-Joey. Does it change how you feel about Johnny as compared to your Act 1 impressions?

Not exactly. I felt as if “erasing River” was a bad thing to do in Act 1, so I doubt it justifies it. Seeing that he wanted to “collect her” is still weird to me. I guess traumas can do all kinds of things to people and you don’t know what exactly could happen with these… I guess Johnny could have potentially turned out a lot worse, killing people and stealing their identities/faces, so at least he’s just some weird guy who wants to possess humans, right?

If I went as far as to excuse someone based on trauma, however, I’d end up also justifying all kinds of other sick people who do horrible things to other people based on some trauma they had in the past. And without naming any politicians, radicals, serial killers or whatever, I’ll just leave it at that.

“She was young and needed the money”

2 – Eva and Neil have a verbal sparring match on their differing views of contract vs. what they now know (or think they know) about what would make Johnny happier. The outcome of Eva’s actions notwithstanding; do you sympathise with one view over the other here?

I feel like it’s wrong to change the memories/brainwash others. While it may make them “happy”, it won’t satisfy them. I don’t think “erasing” River was the right choice. Erasing their sad moments was a bad thing to do even if Johnny wanted it. Alas, I guess I’d side with Neil there.

Space! duh!

3 – Throughout that same exchange, Eva asks Neil to trust her. He clearly didn’t. Did you?

Nope, I wouldn’t have and I didn’t trust her at all since she seemed to turn into a maniac doing all the out of line stuff with the drastic changes and all of that. Idk.

I would have expected it to go horribly wrong and Neil to fix it. Neil would do it just the right way with some Deus Ex Machina bullshit (because I’m a horrible writer) and his idiocy paired with some game-maker magic would end up saving the day while Johnny is flying off on the lighthouse to the Moon where all the rabbits await.. and then he dies…

Nah, even I wouldn’t write that bullshit. I guess if it was me, I would have written it to go horribly wrong and Neil would revert everything back to normal before Johnny dies, thanking the two for not altering his memories. I feel like that would have been a nice touch.

…you’re crazy, Eva!

4 – “He can always find another ‘River’… But he’ll only have one brother.” Again, pretending for the moment you don’t know the outcome of Eva’s actions and what she (suspected) would happen… Do you agree? What about in this context of overwritten memories as opposed to life as it was?

I guess you can always fall in love with someone else but I wouldn’t agree that someone else means necessarily the same to you as the same person. Despite us all being “humans”, we’re all “individuals”, after all. Each with our own personalities, flaws and traits – each with our own ways of thinking, communicating and all of that. Saying that you can always find someone else to love or whatever would be somewhat true as there are many other humans out there… but personally, I’d say that it’s not the same as having a true soulmate that you’re destined to meet and that you love and honour in good and in bad times. You know?

Same thing with brothers: While it may be true that you only have so many blood-relatives, I would not agree that you can’t find people in your life that are equally important or that could replace those gaps. Joey still is with Johnny in his heart (that sounds cheesy) but he also has friends, I’d reckon, apart from Nicholas, so I’d reckon that you can still find new people that are equally as precious.

…and that thing selled? Alrighty!

Some people in the world are not blessed with “normal” or “good” family members and alas have to suffer through a lot. Some people get abused – mentally and physically – throughout their whole life while nobody is listening to them and while it all gets shrugged off. Some people get treated badly all their life and have to go through harassment, insults and violence, always fearing that they might get hurt once again. Some people don’t have the luxury of having family members that they love or that love them. In those cases, you can cut ties with them. In those cases, you can still find new people to replace those family members. You can still find new family members or people that are equally important to you.

So, while you always can find someone else to like, I wouldn’t agree that family members are that much more valuable on a social level compared to someone you’re destined to meet with. You can find new family. You can find new friends. You can find new love. But it depends on your relationship with your old family, your old friends and your old love. You can’t just say that no family is replaceable and that every love is. It all depends on you and others.

“The best part about it is the bottom and the top part.” – “What a shame it would be if anyone wasn’t able to see it!” – “Yeah, it will probably not like anything like this after maintenance!”

5 – Anything you wish I’d asked you about that I haven’t, for this act or any of the others? Answer that question for this one. 😉

Uh, the answer to that question would be “Take 42 – Electric Boogaloo”. (You see the error to that phrasing? “Answer that question for this one” doesn’t necessarily imply that I need to mention the question as well, right? All jokes aside, I don’t really think that there are any question that I could have potentially answered for this one. I feel like the Play-Along was a lot of fun overall (mostly due to me being able to read other posts related to my own posts or rather due to me being able to see the answers that other people had compared to my own ones, I guess?). Uh, I didn’t like To The Moon… I mean, I kinda liked Act 1 and Act 2 felt super slow despite being shorter… and Act 3 dragged on as well… so whatever. Good job, Naithin. You made me play this game. 😛
Again, jokes aside, the planning was cool. Hope you do something like that again in the future. 🙂

The end!… or?

Well, that’s it for the post. Hope you enjoyed it. It’s super late but again, I didn’t really enjoy To The Moon all that much past Act 1 and I’m really happy that I only have to go through the Mini-Sodes now.

Cheers!

So, first up, thanks to Frostilyte for the nomination. I appreciate it.

If anyone doesn’t know Frosti, check him out. You won’t regret it.

Well, now… uh… three things about me, I guess?

  1. Despite my young age, I get flattered when I get ID’d and I tend to get mad at younger people calling me “Sir”. It’s just weird. I don’t look that old, or do I? It may be due to my height (I’ll just count all of that as one fact) of 194cm but it’s still weird for youngsters to use the formal form of “you” or “sir” or whatever when speaking to me… and I’ll have to get used to it when I become a teacher, I guess?
  2. I prefer English over German. I don’t exactly know why but I read more in English than in German. My copy of the Necronomicon, for instance, was probably the oldest title that I’ve bought. I had to look up every fifth word or something at the beginning until I learned all the different synonyms for “horrendous” or “horrible”. Apart from Lovecraft’s short stories, I’m also a huge fan of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Ernest”, which is one of his few socio-critical comedies… and well, as far as shows, movies and games go, I tend to have them turned to English as well instead of German as the dub quite often sounds better in English.
  3. I used to practice Kendo, Iaido and Iodo in my hometown. I’d show you my old gear, including pictures of me in my hakama, gi, and my armour as well as equipped with my shinai, bokken and my io… but I’ve sold them all to make space.
It’s pride month, so here’s a pride mage hat! Happy Pride Month!

Questions from Frostilyte:

1.) What has been the biggest change to your daily routine during the (coron)apocalypse?

Well, mostly, it’s the time at my PC that I’m trying to reduce. I’m turning blue light filters on more often and I try to go stretch and take a few steps on the balcony after every class to make sure that I get that Vitamine D going as well as all of that oxygen. I guess my gaming-habits have also decreased over the course of time since I basically spend so much time at the PC anyways nowadays with all of the online classes. Alas, that probably is the biggest change… but then again, there are also things like “reminding myself to bring my mask” when going out to buy groceries… or stuff like not wearing a shirt all the time…

2.) What game are you most looking forward to?

That’s a hard question actually since there’re so many cool games coming out soon… Well, up there at the top would be the games by the devs that we interviewed in the past but also games like Eastward, Relic Hunters Legend, Boyfriend Dungeon, Haven, Metamorphosis, and Witchmarsh… but if I really had to pick one game that I’m looking forward to the most, it would be Drake Hollow by The Molasses Flood (the guys behind The Flame In The Flood). It’s something that I’ve been excited about for ages now. I’m following The Molasses Flood on Twitter, IG and other platforms for quite some time now and I’m in the process of preparing three posts of that specific game, so I guess it would be fair to say that I’m most excited about that game.

3.) What’s the first you want to do when things go back to normal?

Punch Frosti for the covid-themed questions – just kidding, it was a different time back then… in May!

Uhm, I guess, go to university? I’m really looking forward to that and the cantine food, as well as going to the literature club meetings, and meeting everyone live… it’s been a while and it’s not the same over discord. I’m going to be able to hit the bars again with some friends… and I can go to the Sauna again, which is going to be fantastic! That’s going to be quite cool 😀 But then again apart from those things, there really aren’t all that many things that would change for me (apart from not needing a mask, of course).

4.) What is your favourite type of fruit juice?

I honestly don’t really drink all that much fruit juice. When I came back from my parents’ they also packed me up with a lot of orange juice and some other multi-vitamin-stuff… but I personally don’t like orange at all. I guess if I really had to pick one, I’d say Lychee. I love Lychee juice. I used to frequent this Asian bistro that had a bunch of Asian sodas and juices there, including rice-peach-juice and lychee juice – and well, I also like Lychees so I guess it makes sense that I’d like the juice.

My second choice would be Mango or Strawberry juice, I think.

5.) What’s something you accomplished recently that you’re proud of?

Oh, well, first up, recently a site called Feedspot actually put up a list of the “Top 40 Indie Game Blogs and Websites for Indie Game Enthusiasts in 2020” and we got placed to the 11th spot there right between “indiegamereviewer.com” and “Indie Game Bundles”. Of course sites like itch.io, IndieGala, and the IndieGaming Reddit would be in the top 10 but I feel like it’s a huge accomplishment for someone like me to be up there in the top… uh… 12! And, well, by “someone like me” I mean someone with only a fraction of the followers that those other sides have!

Alas, I’m really proud of that, I guess? I’ve been running this blog for almost a year now and it’s getting a lot of traffic these days, which is kind of frightening… but at the same time I really like the idea of actually having a voice when it comes to reviews and highlighting something that could be considered an “Indie Gem”. Obviously, I’m not posting Indie-only content… but I’m actually trying to work on more Indie-content these days as I really am enjoying the reviews and interviews and all of the research that I can do.

Apart from that, we’ve hit 220 followers on Twitch, raised 140$ for the Trevor Project, unlocked the fourth emote slot (and we’re quite close to hitting the fifth one!) and we’re meeting new people all the time nowadays, which is a ton of fun! So, I guess I’m rather proud of that as well.

Yup, this picture is resurfacing again! I love Tammy in this armour and screenshot, so naturally I’m going to use ‘er here!

Nominees:

When I thought of “blogs that not only captivate but also inspire and motivate”, I thought of a few… but since I can’t mention ALL of them and since I’m limited to “only 10-20”, I thought I’d go with these here. 🙂

Mr Peril – Contains Moderate Peril

It’s always a pleasure to talk to Peril and every single one of his posts is great and features at least five words that I have to google (again, remember, English is my third language). It’s great to read one of his posts and I’d recommend his blog to anyone interested in movie reviews, gaming-related content or comments on society and different issues.

Naithin – Time To Loot

Naithin not only organises a lot of different events and collaboration opportunities for other bloggers (like the “To The Moon”-Play-Along or the Civ-Succession-Games) but also is a trendsetter when it comes to “Challenges” and is able to write a variety of different types of posts that I really am enjoying to read. I’ve only known Nait for a year now but I really have come to enjoy my time talking to him every now and then and it’s also a pleasure to be around him. Hell, he even showed Asheron’s Call to me – and the posts on that are among the most viewed on my blog right now!

TWRM – The Well-Red Mage

I guess this one could be counted as “cheating” as TWRM features a lot of guest-posts on their site. There are plenty of posts there by bloggers that I’d like to nominate but never get the chance to and essentially they all get to be mages on there. I could recommend any of the posts there and I’m sure there’s something for everyone on there! And TWRM himself also organizes events for all kinds of people like the Super Mario Multiverse event that happened on the 10th of March (Mar10 Day) and alas, I guess that’s quite inspiring and awesome!

Jeff Brutlag – jeffbrutlag.com

Jeff is a lovely streamer and blogger who is always worth checking out, I’d say. If you’re not into reading, check him out on Twitch and say hello. His community is nice and he is a really cool guy and reading some of his stuff really helped me with my coming-out (Oh, right, I’m bi!) and all of that. His streams are super wholesome and I love lurking in there every now and then while enjoying the sheer positivity coming from this beautiful man and his viewers!

His blog features a lot of LGBTQIA+ content but isn’t limited to that. There are also a lot of posts on other topics such as Twitch or NaNoWriMo or RL-stuff, so basically he’s a jack of all trades with a plethora of content to check out!

Quietschistopheles – RNG

Quietschisto from RNG is another German fellow writing English reviews on a blog. He’s quite cool to play games with and he, Frosti and I did a collaboration on Ring of Pain in the past. We also talked a bit here and there about drinking and sleeping and uh…

Quietschisto is an interesting guy which you can see on his blog as well. Not only does he have a plethora of posts on Assassin’s Creed and other games up but he also writes reviews (similar to Frosti and I) while also talking about cocktails and drinks and stuff, which is quite fun. I really recommend checking Quietschisto out if you’re a fan of any of that!

Yup, this is from Dark Souls 3. Yup, I’m playing it right now. Yup, I’m dying a lot. 🙂

Lucius P. Merriweather – A Most Agreeable Time

Lucius over here was one of the first bloggers that I followed on WordPress after starting my blog that was NOT from Blaugust. So, that makes him special, I guess. Kind of at least… just a little bit…

Jokes aside, I really enjoy his reviews, although I haven’t really read a lot of blog posts in the past few days… but whenever I saw something by Lucius over here, I tried to tune in and see for myself what he has written up. I really enjoy his reviews as they feature a different style from the ones that I tend to write or read. Lucius’ posts are easy to get into and hard to let go of. Definitely worth checking out! 🙂

Kim and Pete – LaterLevels

Not only are they a wonderful couple and entertaining streamers but they also did provide some nice insights into the world of blogging when I just started out. Information like why comments are so important or what spacers do. Obviously, there are also posts on video games and, again, collaborations with other people like the Play-Along where Kim is also participating in or The Great Blog Crawl 2020, where I originally wanted to take part in… but that kind of fell under the table. Kim also has a great community going on on a discord called The Support Role, which I’d recommend checking out as well if you’re interested in seeing streamers or bloggers from all over the world or if you’re in need of help or advice. The Support Role can also be found on Twitch, so uh… check them out!

Frostilyte – Frostilyte Writes

I’m not entirely sure if this is allowed but Frosti is cool and you should check him out. Despite me misgendering him at the beginning (it’s Naithin’s fault!), we’re getting along quite well… and as Theme-Brothers we obviously have to nominate each other. 😀 Right?

Frosti also writes reviews but also other types of content as well as posts about Derpy Pokémon Drawings that he did… so, there’s that. If you like that,… follow him or something. 😛

So pretty!

TGD – The Gaming Diaries

GD (I have no clue how to call ‘er) has a lovely format called Seriously Geeky Sundays that I enjoy reading… the fact that it says “Sundays” in the title probably helps with figuring out when the post will be up, which is probably why I’m able to read it so often. Her streams are quite fine to lurk in and she does have these really cool posts about the games she played in every month and well, different topics on Sundays. It’s been fun to read her, so check her out. 🙂

Krikket – NerdGirlThoughts

Another review-blogger (as I’d call ‘er) who posts about stuff other than reviews as well. I feel like I’m mentioning the same things over and over again. Krikket is lovely. Her taste in games is quite different from mine but I enjoy reading her posts, especially as she’s also part of the succession games that the Blaugustans have going on right now! I’d recommend checking her out. I like her posts. You should, too. lol.

As my tenth nominee (Frosti probably doesn’t count since he nominated me),…

Belghast – Tales of the Aggronaut

His cats are just adorable! He organises the lovely Blapril/Blaugust event and writes a ton of posts about all kinds of games from Destiny 2 to TemTem or whatever else is currently cool. I really enjoy reading his discussion-type posts as well as listening to his podcast and when I got to know the Blaugust-people he was the only blogger that I’ve actually heard of prior to joining the discord… so, adding him on steam and being able to talk to him was kind of huge for me back then. 😀

So, yeah, these are my nominees. They are all quite captivating, inspiring and motivating! Really recommending all of them. Please check them out! 🙂

Both of my drawings… the Loan Shark and the Aheago-Rabbit battling it out! :O POG!

Uh, I need to share links to my “best posts”. Well,… this is going to be a tough one since I like a whole bunch of my posts a lot…

Honestly, I hate this point. Screw that. If you really want to know my favourite, go to this link and search for it yourself!

And as far as posts go that are probably “up there” in the top-something, I’d probably go for my reviews on The Flame In The FloodRisk of Rain 1Omensight, or Moonlighter. I put a huge chunk of work into those posts but they’re horribly flawed with all kinds of typos and spelling errors in them. Some of them are also way too long… but despite their flaws, they’re still my posts, so I love them regardless of those flaws… I guess I can’t really decide on my favourites when I think about the total of over hundred posts that I did in the past year… so naturally, I just picked a few out of my reviews as I originally wanted to do reviews only… and while my newer reviews surely are a lot better than my old ones… I still like these ones a lot!

Questions from me for the nominees (if they want to answer them):

  1. What’s the weirdest combination of food items that you can think of that should not work… but actually does work really good?
  2. What’s the most important thing you’ve learned over the course of time in regards to Blogging and/or Streaming?
  3. You’re forced to swap out your country’s “leader” (party/politician/etc.) with a videogame antagonist (like Borderlands’ “Handsome Jack”). What antagonist do you choose and why exactly?
  4. What are the top 5 games on your wishlist and what’s the next thing you’ll get?
  5. Do you have a playlist/some playlists for different tasks in games like grinding or PvP, etc. and if so, can you share them with us and explain why you use them for those specific tasks?

That’s it for this post. These Award/Nomination/Tag-type posts are always something else, so they take a bit longer to edit and write up and I need to come up with some interesting questions and overall… I hope that you enjoyed this one! If you want to answer these questions in a post as well, feel free to do that and link back to me so that I can check those answers out for myself! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing the nominees’ answers and questions and everything! 🙂

Cheers!

The “To The Moon” Play-Along – Act 2

“It’s the second week of the To The Moon Play-Along and alas we’re getting right into Act 2!”, is what I would have said if I wasn’t late with this post. Alas, an explanation:

I was not at home to play the game and therefore couldn’t write a post on this prompt. I couldn’t play through Act 2 as I only had my laptop with me and as it (probably) can’t run TtM, but in return, I had some time to write up five other posts instead that I wouldn’t have gotten to over here… weird, innit?

Anyways, we’re back home again since yesterday and alas we’re heading into another Act of To The Moon… this time it’s a tad shorter and alas only features four questions. If you still haven’t played the game and don’t want to get spoiled, don’t read this post. If you’re completely new to the Play-Along I’d recommend checking out the “hub”-post over here where you’re able to find not only my last post but also the other posts by the other people participating! 🙂 So, let’s get into this, shall we?

Sperm at work

1. When Eva was sitting, thinking about the reasons nothing at all changed in Johnny’s simulated memories — what conclusions do you think she reached? What conclusion did you reach?

My initial thoughts on the matter were something that Nicolas mentioned… “something happened” in the past that was extraterrestrial for them and maybe even a tad creepy. I would have thought that there was some supernatural or alien event that traumatized Johnny so much that he just can’t remember his past all that much. That was my conclusion at least.

Eva probably thought about it with her contract in mind and how she could potentially find a way out of this blockade. Later we find out that a different event traumatized Johnny and his mother… and that he had taken beta-blockers to (potentially) cope with it… so the side effects of those caused Johnny to forget about a lot of things.

I’m sure you did nazi those fascists coming when you landed on the dark side of the moon.

2. The block on the youngest memories and the use of beta-blockers… What do you think this will be all about?

Well, *again*, I thought that there would be some sort of extra-terrestrial stuff going on but sadly was disappointed with what happened. With all the distortions and the black and white stuff between the memory links going on, I would have thought that it’s some trauma of sorts that turned Johnny into a creep… but uh… well, it was, I guess?

Small break for fresh air?

3. What about Neil taking off for a moment while Eva returned with the… ahem… Contained dead squirrel odour? What could have been so important to him?

Honestly, no idea. It just doesn’t make sense to me right now… I mean, he’s working for a company, he’s on contract and that contract is not fulfilled yet but he’s taking a stroll in the woods while his client is about to die. Everything seems a tad weird but I guess that’s Neil in a nutshell… in a good way.

This is kind of a far-stretch but maybe he has some health conditions that required him to walk away to take some drugs or vomit or whatever – well, something that he’d have to do somewhere away from other people as it’s loud or unsightly. This assumption is based on the fact that we picked up some pain killers while sampling the odour and based on the fact that Neil’s health was already a bit damaged when we fought against the squirrel. Alas, I thought that Neil potentially could have some brain stuff going on or some side effects from the machine they’re using or something like that. I honestly have no clue so these are just some theories of mine on it… Maybe we’ll find out eventually!

She was young and needed the money.

4. We still have the third act to come. What do you think it will focus on?

We end Act 2 with trying to break through the inaccessible memories… using a dead squirrel’s odour… and uh… well,… I guess we’ll make it in time and get through the barriers?

Initially, I thought that we’d find out about the past and that we’d influence Johnny to want to go to the moon by doing something with River since she’s a big part of his life. Alas, it probably focuses on River and that incident in Johnny’s childhood.

“Hey, I ain’t a bastard!”

Either way, we’re done with the questions for last week! I didn’t like Act 2 as it was incredibly slow-paced and as it felt a lot longer than it was. For the length that it featured it just wasn’t that exciting, in my opinion… So, when I was getting bored, it was over already… and then I ended up playing some more to get through the first half of Act 3. Alas, while answering the questions I already knew a bit more than I should have known… but luckily I made some notes and alas was able to see my first impressions and theories on the story, so it’s all original over here.

😛

And that’s it for this post. I’m looking forward to the third act as it will be the end of the main story… and then there’re only the minisodes to come which hopefully are a tad shorter and more exciting than Act 2. While I did like Act 1, I’m not entirely sure if the slow pacing of Act 2 is everything that I didn’t like. There have been other moments in the game that I didn’t enjoy as much, such as Johnny being a creep and some mistakes and logical errors here and there, such as the Animorphs reference in one part that they didn’t get right… The beginning of Act 3 was kind of cute but I’m not entirely sure if I’m liking the game all that much right now. Oh well.

If you liked this post or if you have other stupid theories, let me know!

Have a nice day!

Cheers!

To The Moon Play-Along – Act 1

Ever participated in a Group-Reading-Event? Me neither! But Naithin borrowed the idea and planned out this Play-Along event so I thought I’d participate and also discover a cute new game… and this time around it’s To The Moon!

So, during last Tuesday’s stream, we started off playing through the first Arc of To The Moon and will continue to play through the next Arc on next Tuesday’s stream, and after each session, I will prepare a blog post with questions and answer regarding the game, which will come out on the following Friday. 🙂 I hope that the rules are somewhat understandable, so uh… yeah. Next up, I’d try to summarise the game as well as possible without spoiling the game before eventually getting to the questions that Naithin prepared for us… so uh, there will be spoilers. Duh.

What’s To The Moon about?
Essentially we are scientists that manipulate the memories of dying people to grant them their last wishes. During To The Moon we’re trying to get into the head of John H. “Johnny” Wyles and get through a few hurdles to essentially convince him as a Child in his memories that he’ll become an astronaut so that his subsequent memories will be about him going to the Moon and stuff. During that time we find out about River, his wife, that died of a condition and we also learn some stuff about other things in Johnny’s past, resulting in a rather sad story with its comedic moments here and there as well as some weirder creepy moments.

1.
Let’s start with the big guns — at the completion of Act 1 — how do you now feel about the very concept of granting someone’s dying wish by overwriting their memories with new ones?

Short answer: Bullshit.
Long answer: Your life consists (from what I know so far) of bad moments and good moments. “The pain I feel now is the happiness I felt before”, and vice versa, right? After every down comes an up and another down. That’s just how things go. If you’ve hit rock-bottom at one point, you can’t get any lower, right?

Overwriting all of that crap at the end of your life would make your life itself meaningless and ultimately destroy the satisfaction you felt at the happy moments in your life. If all of your life went well, you can’t be truly satisfied after all.

Another angle at this would be a very long paragraph about how a wild pig would be better off than a pig in a pigsty. That long paragraph would actually have been longer than everything I’ve written up until now, in this post, so I’ve deleted it and uh… essentially: I’d rather suffer in the wild than die in a pigsty. I’d rather be satisfied after a lot of suffering than to die after having been only happy. Happiness and Satisfaction are two different things.

Naturally, all the people that you loved or that treated you well would be gone in your mind as well. All the people that died along the ride and that suffered with you would be gone. All the people that you disliked are gone as well. All the people that made you “you” are away as well. In the end, your memories would make all of those experiences, good and bad, be meaningless as they just get erased and as you die in some stupid dream while forgetting about your family, your friends, your dreams and your experiences, your wife and your kids, or whatever else you had good-experience-wise.

A COBRA?! DEVS, ARE YOU STUPID?! – I mean, I only kind of remembered the show and thought it was a lion but was then tricked into entering Tiger as I was doubting my memeory and as there was one extra line there… BUT COBRA?! WHAT?!

2.
What did you think of River’s choice to put her treatment behind that of Anya?

You may think that this one’s an obvious one as I made it somewhat clear in the earlier question but I’d rather die in the end than prolong my inevitable death even more. River could have gotten treated and then could have died in a horrible fire on the very next day. “Anya” will persist.
“Anya” is love, “Anya” is life.

But I guess, I’d rather have the funds for some expensive treatment that might now work go to something that will persist forever than prolong my life when I’m old and when I might kick the bucket in the next five years anyways. If I ever get to only live because of some stupid machine, then I’d rather have you cut the cord. (Or rather unplug it since the cord might be useful to someone else)

[Enter joke about lasagna here]

3.
In response to Neil commenting that it was like watching a train-wreck unfold, Eva says, “The ending isn’t any more important than the moments leading up to it.” Do you agree?

Yes, absolutely. Again, “the pain I feel now is the happiness I felt before”. Everything comes to an end eventually, so you might as well enjoy the ride up to that point.

A close friend of mine ended up with not wanting relationships for quite some time after her last break-up but then actually got to know someone who she was thinking of dating. I told her to go for it. If it goes wrong, it goes wrong. But if you don’t go for it, you’ll always end up with the “What if” and won’t even get the chance to get to those good moments.
“You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take!”

In the end, it didn’t go well, since he was a dick but they wouldn’t have made the experience if they didn’t try. And they would not have experienced any of the good experiences if they never got together.

Know what you mean… I think!

4.
What did you make of Johnny’s decision not to read the book offered by Dr Lee?

Screw Johnny! If he cared about River he would’ve educated himself and tried to understand how she feels and what she’s going through. Instead of that, he decided not to read it, showing no interest at all but acting as if he does care later on when he’s with friends.

And later on, you find out that Johnny is a moron, to begin with since he got together with River, not out of love or anything like that, but for a reason that is a lot worse and a lot creepier than that. Honestly, just screw him!

Uh, but I guess that’s not what this question about:
“The Less I Know The Better”, right? So, I guess he didn’t want to know about it, trying to pretend that it doesn’t exist or that it will go away eventually. He tried to not read about it and not educate to not face the truth that the condition may get worse or that it may even kill River at some point.

In the end: He’s still a douche but I guess that was his reasoning behind it.

LFIE SAVER

5.
How do you feel about Johnny as a person now, particularly after he reveals why he (at least initially?) was interested in River?

Again, fuck Joey! Fuck him! Screw that guy. Joey is such a fucking weirdo.

I guess it’s understandable that you need to find someone interesting first before you can approach and get to know them. You won’t get to know someone if they are not on your radar. So, she got onto his radar since he’s weird… but uh… not like that.

Johnny aka “Joey” is just weird. Screw him!

Home Sweet Home…?

6.
We saw River’s obsession with origami rabbits very early in the pieceand some of the events that tracked back as a possible origin along the way. After Johnny told her about his initial motivations, it all kicked off. Neil thought it might’ve been River holding onto a grudge. What do you think?

Doubt it. I don’t think that you put on an “act” to fuck with someone and worry them sick if you love them. Even if Johnny is a weirdo and a creep and a jerk and a.. uh… where was I?

She probably still loved him and hence I doubt that it’s a grudge. In the next few arcs, there is probably some sort of revelation that she got traumatised by something and that Johnny did something worse than just that.

He’s a weirdo and a jerk after all… He’s a jerko! He must have done something wrong at one point and screwed her up that way… and maybe he just got traumatised by that as well and it got rid of it in his memories, too? Or there has been an accident in the past that lead to all of this later. After all, Nicolas also was alluding to something like that.

NOT AGAIN!

Either way, I hope you enjoy this post about my answers to these questions and my experience with To The Moon. I don’t usually play Point n Click games and I found the settings quite painful to set up… especially since you need to use Alt+Enter to get into Fullscreen and since there are no other video-settings… but the story is rather interesting so far and while it certainly is sad, it does have it’s comedic moments here and there, so that’s cool.

And mostly, I’m just excited to play a game again that I know nothing about. When I started playing Monster Hunter World, I already have seen a bunch of Monsters and currently, I’m a bit burned out with Iceborne since I know all the monsters right now… but since I have no clue about anything past the Fulgur Anjanath, I’m rather excited about that again. Having a true “blind” experience with certain games is just the best, in my opinion. Knowing what’s coming makes the game not necessarily less fun but it certainly loses a lot of its initial pull, so that’s a bit of a bummer, I’d say.

Anyways, I hope that y’all are having a great day! Have a nice one!

Cheers!

Quantic Foundry Gamer Motivation Profile

A while ago… well… a few months ago, I should say, I was nominated by Frostilyte to participate in a new tag post thing. And then I thought I’d do it later… and then I forgot about it… and now it seems like a good day to post about that, so uh… here!

What’s this tag about?

Well, we’re doing the Gamer Motivation Profile by Quantic Foundry, which is a survey that I need to take and then I essentially examine the results of the said survey by answering several questions. The survey is supposed to describe different traits in my gaming behaviour and also recommend games to me based on my answers.

What are the results? Share the link, headline and the two motivation model graphs you received.

My Gamer Motivation Profile is Social, Story-Focused, and Creative. Naithin posted a doc in Frostilytes post (just check out the comment section as I don’t know to link that specifically) that essentially explains what all of this means… but I feel like I’m even more confused now that I’ve read the doc. I guess “Social” means that I like PvP and PvE stuff with other players, which is true, I guess. I’ve been playing a lot of League of Legends, MHW and Destiny 2, although I’ve only mentioned the former two in the survey. The “Story-Focused” aspect is probably about plots and characters in games: If I hate the characters, I don’t really like the game – or for instance in League: I like Lissandra because of her lore and I wouldn’t play her if she was just another run-off-the-mill-character that has to avenge her father/brother/kids/parents/master/etc.
And as far as creativity goes… I like customizing stuff, I guess? Whatever.

How do you feel about your survey results?

I partly answered this one in the first question already. Overall, I guess that it makes sense. I do enjoy playing with and against other players. I also care about getting better about the game but more about the fun/the experience, resulting in a below average Mastery score. I noticed that quite often I need to have some Action but not always, so I would have thought that the Action score is a bit higher and as far as Creativity goes, I’m not the most creative… I guess that high score happened due to the questions that I answered about being able to (re)create a character. I do enjoy being the bad guy, which is why my “Destruction” Score is so high (58%) and I do enjoy a bit of a Challenge and Fantasy, I guess, but I would have personally said that Strategy and would be a bit more up there.

Frostilyte’s Chungus managed to sneak itself into my game :O

Which category is the most and which one is the least accurate?

I guess “Strategy” was the least accurate with its 49%. I mean, Destruction is all the way up there at 58% but I’d say that I overall enjoy Strategy aspects in games more than the fact that I can destroy pots in a house. Similar thing goes for “Story” and “Challenge”. If I get bored from the story or from the difficulty, I stop playing games or start to skim through or I get cocky and do something stupid. Hence, these are probably the most accurate. I do play a lot of Roguelikes and I do try to get better at certain games, so as long as the game is fair, I enjoy a challenges a lot more than story-aspects. So, I guess I’d rather put “Challenge” up a bit more while putting down the story-part, despite them (probably) being the most accurate.

Are there any major exceptions to your typical gaming motivations?

I guess “Creativity” and “Community” aren’t really right there. While I enjoy playing with other people, I don’t want to be too social. Same goes for creative stuff, while I do enjoy creating and planning out a character or a city or base, I don’t necessarily like creative tasks as much as this survey would lead to believe. In that sense the questions might be a bit flawed as they don’t really allow you to discern between “building things and designing something” and “creating your own character and changing a skin”, which I would call two different things.

Do any of these motivations carry over to your non-gaming life? If so, how?

I’d say “not really”. I’m often quite lazy and I tend to procrastinate a lot, so “Achievement” and Mastery” can’t be that close to “average”/50%. I suck at creative tasks (apart from writing, I guess?) and my social skills aren’t the best eitherr. I’m not too social either… I mean it all depends. I don’t actively search for people to talk to but I also don’t necessarily want to be all alone… The only thing that would be quite accurate would be “Action”, as I suck at sports and physical activities, haha.

MHW managed to be weird and cute at the same time!

Which games in your experience best satisfy your gaming motivations and how do they compare to the “suggested games” list from the questionnaire’s follow up page?

I really like RimWorld, Hollow Knight and Monster Hunter World right now as these games have the right amount of story, challenge and creative activity for me to basically not get bored for quite some time.
Suggest games wise, my recommendations feature “Heroes of the Storm” in the “Popular Games” section, which must be a mistake. I do enjoy it as well as Guild Wars 2, Warframe, and the Pokémon franchise but I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I’d try out HotS any time soon – especially due to the fact that they nerfed a ton of my favourite chars. Whatever.

Overwatch would be another one of those cases where the game is actually good but Blizzard screwed them up for me… as a Tank/Support-Main I hate the fact that essentially all characters are Damage-Dealers while you’re stuck with only 6 characters as a Support or Tank, though one of them is already taken by your teammate. Symmetra, Roadhog, Mei, Torbjörn, and Bastion for instance used to have either their own “specialist” class or they were formerly in other classes… but now they are all DDs, rendering the game variety quite unenjoyable to me. After all, I’d either have to queue up for a few minutes to play DD (as everyone wants to play that) or I play something where I’m limited to essentially only two or three heroes or where I’m forced to play something else if Ana gets picked away. I don’t like Overwatch anymore.

We tried to do the Gardens of Salvation raid the other day and I thought that this place looked pretty!

Civ V and World of Warcraft are interesting recommendations here but I’m not too keen on getting a subscription service going right now and I planned on getting into the Civ games anyways (wishlist and all of that).

The “balanced” recommendations feature a lot of the previously mentioned as well as Cities: Skylines (which I already like) and ARK: Survival Evolved (which I found interesting concept-wise but I don’t really care about it all that much, especially as none of my friends play it). “Star Wars: The Old Republic” is probably a good title if you’re a Star Wars fan… which I’m not exactly.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a good game. I was in the closed beta ages ago and really liked it there but didn’t play it afterwards… but I might get into it some time soon. And Fire Emblem Heroes got recommended to me, too, despite it not being a PC game and despite me having said that I don’t play on anything other than PC. Maybe I’ll have to get a Switch afterall… I mean, I already know that I enjoy the Fire Emblem games but the newer titles might be a lot more different.

And last but not least, Quantic Foundry is recommending Starbound and 2048 in the Niche-Section. While Starbound is cool, I guess, I don’t really have too many friends to play it with and I wouldn’t really play it all on my own… 2048 on the other hand gets boring quite quickly. The Total War series are great, from what I have seen, but I can’t afford them right now (Hence wishlisted and waiting for a sale). Fallout Shelter is a game that I’m aware of… but I got quite bored of it when I last played it… and then there’s also Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle which is not my cup of tea as I have no clue about Dragon Ball Z.. oh and Pillars of Eternity which has been wishlisted for quite some time.

The recommendations weren’t really all that great and I was hoping to get some more Indie titles but I did sadly not get any of those… what a bummer.

Well, there you go. I hope that you’ve enjoyed this post. Was there anything that you wouldn’t have guessed result-wise on my side? Let me know!

As far as nominations go, I have no clue if you got tagged already, so I’ll just nominate

Chestnut from Gamer Girl Confessions
Wilhelm from The Ancient Gaming Noob
Kluwes from I’m Not Squishy
and Solarayo from AceSunder

I love my Whisper

So, uh, do the same if you’d like to and then nominate four other people!

Cheers!
